The largest majority of the BMS are MS-Windows® applications, but there are also a few Mac programs (that I know much less than Windows based applications: sorry).

A growing number of open-source, often cross-platform, applications have started populating the scene of bibliographic software (see Open standards and software for bibliographies and cataloging).

Increasingly,  entirely web based BMS are coming to the front stage (such as RefWorks, EndNote Web).
